MIPTV 2016 kicks off in Cannes

Written by Daniel Kirby on 4th April 2016

MIPTV 2016 is in full force after kicking off in Cannes earlier this morning.

The annual content market provides a platform for media companies to buy and sell content and we're looking forward to seeing what deals will be struck over the coming days.

Studiocanal have been prolific in the event's opening hours, having acquired minority stakes in three independent European companies, including a 20 percent stake in Benedict Cumberbatch's company SunnyMarch.

BBC Worldwide has also made an impact, having pre-sold the eight-part drama series 'The Collection' to DR in Denmark as well as Sweden's SVT. The series is an Anglo-French production set in late 40s Paris and is due to have its global launch at MIPTV later today. This is definitely one to keep an eye on!
